Rutherford, Margaret Cowperthwait
passed away peacefully July 26, 2012 in the home she shared with Bob, her husband of 64 years. She was 97. Margo was laser sharp to the end and eager to engage on any variety of her favorite subjects from politics to the prospects of the coming Cardinals football season. She was a longtime member of the North Phoenix Republican Women, a cunning bridge player, an avid animal lover, and a devoted parishioner at her beloved All Saints Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild and other committees spanning five decades. Margaret Louise Cowperthwait was born in 1914 in Faribault, MN. After graduating from St. Mary's Prep in 1932 she attended Carlton College and the University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.S. in medical technology. She worked in medical hematology labs in Minneapolis, Norfolk, VA, and at Beaumont Army hospital in El Paso, TX where she married Bob in 1948 and joined the ranks of Army wives until his retirement at Luke in 1968. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Bob (Ann) and granddaughter Madison. She was dearly loved by her family. A celebration of Margo's life will be held at 10am Saturday, Aug 4th at All Saints, 6300 N. Central. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the AZ Humane society, 1521 W.
