Peacock, Melvin Porter (Pete)
93, passed away in his sleep March 17, 2014. The oldest of seven boys, he was born in Cochran, GA, Sept 18, 1920. After college he joined the US Navy where after 23 years of service he retired as Senior Chief Medical Hospital Corpsman. He was a distinguished veteran of WWII and the Korean War. During his naval career he proudly served on the U.S.S. PCE873, U.S.S. Norton Sound, and the U.S.S. Berkeley. Melvin began his second career as a USPS Letter Carrier in Oxnard, CA before transferring to Phoenix, AZ. He retired from the USPS with 21 years of service. He has resided in Phoenix for more than 43 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Pearl P and Mattie (Horne) Peacock; two brothers: Carlton and Ralph Peacock; and his beloved wife Geraldine (Tway) Peacock. He is survived by his children: Steven (Leslie) Peacock, Nancy (R. Dean) Pritchett, Bruce (Heidi) Peacock and Roy Peacock; four of his brothers: Perle, Edwin, Wallace and Harold Peacock; grandchildren: Ronald (Mychelle) Pyle, Jeffrey (Cindy) Pyle, Beth (William) Smith, Misty (Chris) Roberti, Kevin Peacock, Ryan (Donna) Peacock, Lauren (Daniel) Escobar; 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews. Celebration of his life will be held April 26, 2014 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 925 N Sarival Ave, Goodyear, AZ at 10:00 AM.
