Konzal, Norbert J. "Bert"
Bert passed away March 2, 2013 at the age of 90. Bert was born September 14, 1922 in Detroit. Michigan. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served until 1946 at Luke Field. He spent 36 years as a teacher (Biology & Chemistry), Director of Science Education and Director of Curriculum for the Phoenix Union High School District. Bert was also an adjunct professor at Arizona State University, Tempe for many years. Bert is survived by one sister, Celine T. Milne of Laguna Beach, CA and one brother Jim Konzal (wife Judy) of Encinitas, CA and many nieces and nephews. He was an avid gardener and as a 27 year member of the Phoenix Chrysanthemum Society and the National Chrysanthemum Society served as a National Director and Committee Chair. He served as National Director and as an Officer of the Gardeners of America where he received honors for his horticulture photography. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 5510 W Cholla Glendale, AZ, on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 8:30 am. Bert was a resident of Mercy Adult Care Home for 1 1/2 years before going to Hospice.
