Guerrero, Odilia G. "Mima"
90, passed away, January 23, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona. Odilia was born December 10, 1922 in El Remolino Ranch, Texas to Teodoro Gonzalez and Maria Olivia Garza Gonzalez. She taught school in Mesa from 1962 to 1982. She taught at Hawthorne Elementary School and later was an ESL curriculum specialist. In 1973 she was honored as one of the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America on the basis of her professional and civic achievements. She was a mentor for many choosing to enter the field of education. She was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church where she served many roles. Odilia is survived by her daughter, Evelia Rivera and husband Peter; son, Edward Guerrero and wife Nancy; daughter-in-law, Tina Guerrero; step-daughters, Viola Rafferty and Sylvia Navarro; step-son, Julian C. Guerrero and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Odilia is also survived by (6) sisters, (1) brother, (2) brothers-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Queen of Heaven Mortuary Chapel, 1562 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 E. Dana Ave., Mesa, AZ 85204. Burial will follow services at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Apache Trail, Mesa, AZ. Memories and condolences may be made by visiting the online obituary Guest Book at www.obitsazcentral.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Odilia's name to Christ the King Church, 1551 E.
