Atchison, Olan L.
83 of Mesa passed away peacefully on July 16th. Olan was born in Abilene, Texas on January 20, 1931. He moved to Bisbee in 1937 where he graduated from Bisbee High School in 1949. Olan worked in the Bisbee mines for a summer during high school. He served in both the Army National Guard and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After serving in the Air Force, he returned to Tempe to complete his Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State College and graduated in 1955. While attending college, Olan met and married his wife, Nancy, on November 10, 1954. Olan and Nancy made their home in Scottsdale for 54 years until Nancy's passing in 2012, at that time, Olan moved to Mesa to be closer to his family. Olan began his career in aeronautical engineering with McDonnell Douglas in California. In 1955 Olan and Nancy moved back to Arizona where Olan worked for Air Research/Garrett/Allied Signal and retired after 34 years of service in 1991. Olan was an active member of Chaparral Christian Church in Scottsdale. Olan is survived by his daughter, Christi Atchison of Phoenix, sons, Jeff (Julie), Rodney, and J.R. (Gerri) of Mesa, granddaughters, Rebecca Atchison, Sara Simonton (Jared), Jill Cupryk (Jeremy), Ansley Gurr (Blake) and Nicole Atchison, grandsons, Joshua Hixenbaugh (Breanna), T.J. and Daniel Atchison, great-grandsons, Ryley Hixenbaugh and Declan Simonton, great-granddaughters, Lillian Simonton and Londyn Hixenbaugh, and sisters Trucene Brengle and JoAnn Lebus. Olan's family would like to express deep appreciation for the care provided by the employees of Emerald Grove Central and Hospice of the Valley. Services will be held at Chaparral Christian Church 6451 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, July 19th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marc Center 924 N Country Club Drive, Mesa AZ 85201 in the name of Olan Atchison. www.greenacresmortuary.net
