Meyer, Robert Calvin
Robert C. Meyer passed away from cancer on April 8,2014 . He was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1929 to Earl and Helen Meyer. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of sixty-four years, five sons- Robert Jr., Dan, Steven, John and James; twenty four grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; and his sister Grace in Minnetonka, Minnesota. In 1947 Robert joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler where he met his wife at a dance. Elizabeth was one of the original call girls from Mountain Bell who Robert adored and loved for 64 years. They were married August 19, 1949 and had their first son, Robert Jr. August 7, 1950 he was recalled to the service during the Korean War, and was stationed in California for one year. He then returned to Phoenix where he worked at Goldwaters Builders Supply, Arizona Highway Department (ADOT), and Morrison Knudsen Engineering Company on the stack freeway job. Bob was the first labor union president of state workers, later called AFSCME. He was active in school PTA at Cordova Elementary and taught little league baseball for seventeen years. To honor and celebrate his life, the viewing will be on Monday, April 14 at Abel Funeral Services (1627 N. 51 Ave. Phoenix, 85035) at 10:00am. The burial will be held at the National Veterans Cemetery (23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix, 85024) at 1:00pm. Robert will be dearly missed by all.
