Hay, Robert E. "Bob"
84, of Sun Lakes, AZ passed away on September 13, 2013. Bob joined the Navy and served 4 years from 1945 - 1949. After the Navy, he then attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and graduated with honors receiving a BS EE degree. Later, he received his MS EE degree from Arizona State University having also completed his PhD course work in computer science. During Bob's aerospace career he worked for Westinghouse, Beechcraft, and Boeing. He then spent the next 27 years with Motorola and retired in 1991. In 1997, Bob was inducted into NASA's Space Hall of Fame to recognize his significant contribution to the space station communication architecture. Bob was very active in the community by serving 2 school board terms in the Paradise Valley Unified School District. He also managed several little league teams and served a term as president of Paradise Valley Little League West. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Darlene. His 5 sons Rick (Kim), David (Katie), Doug, Scott (Theresa), and Craig (Terri). Grandchildren including Nathan (Kelsey), Bethany, Andy, Austin, Sarah, Leanne, Grace, and Keira. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, September 30th at 10:30AM at St. Steven's Catholic Church, 24827 S. Dobson Rd. (North of Riggs Rd.) in Sun lakes. The Navy will present a brief honors ceremony in the courtyard following the church service. Immediately afterwards, a luncheon will be served in the social hall. All are invited to come with stories to share.
