Winfrey, Robert (Bob) Wayne
89, of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2014. Bob was a loving and devoted husband of 62 years, a loyal and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and he enjoyed all of his extended family and friends. Bob was born to Ethel Marie and Otto Newell Winfrey on June 11, 1925 in Coffeyville, Kansas. His family moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1931 where Bob grew up and went to school. He served in the Army toward the end of WWII followed by eleven years in the Army Reserve. After the war, Bob went to work for W. P. Fuller Co. and worked his way up to management over the next 12 years. During that time, Bob met the love of his life, Elsie Riess, and they were married in 1950. In 1958 he accepted a management position with United Blood Services and over the next 21 years expertly directed multiple blood centers across the southwest including Little Rock, AR; Meridian MS; San Antonio, TX; Houston, TX; Phoenix, AZ and Corpus Christi, TX. In 1979, he went to work for the State of Arizona as a budget analyst for the Governor's office. He retired in 1991 and loved spending time in Munds Park and Show Low, AZ with his wife and family. Throughout the years Bob eagerly served the Lord through his church in many ways including as an Elder and other leadership roles. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Elsie A. Winfrey and his brother Charles N. Winfrey. Bob is survived by his daughter Robin Winfrey, sons Rick (Lisa) Winfrey and Chuck (Pam) Winfrey, grandsons Robert Waddell, Bryan Winfrey, and Christopher Winfrey, and his great-grandson Bryson Waddell. He was loved so very much and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who will forever treasure their memories of him. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 10:00am Saturday August 16, 2014 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church located at 1035 E. Guadalupe Rd., Tempe, AZ 85283. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Tempe, AZ. (glctempe.com) or (hov.org).
