Nelson, Ronald Ray
Ronald R. Nelson, 78, passed away on January 22, 2013 from complications due to Alzheimer's Disease. Born on December 3, 1934 in Palisade, MN, he spent most of his life in his adopted home state of Arizona. A beloved father, husband, teacher and friend, he taught primary school for 36 years after earning Masters degrees from Arizona State University and Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University) and serving in the United States Naval Reserve. Hilarious, curious and open-hearted, he traveled all over the world, studying foreign cultures, and enjoyed drawing, singing in choirs, trivia, reading, classic movies, and playing games with his wife and friends. A man of deep religious conviction, he volunteered for faith-based initiatives, helping mentally handicapped adults and the homeless. He is survived by his sons John and Christopher, daughters-in-law Alison and Emily, granddaughter Bethany, and sister, Joan Kingsley. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Patricia. Services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in Phoenix, Arizona, Saturday, February 2nd at 2:00pm. Memorial donations can be sent to the and Heifer International.
