Servando Barreras Carrillo (Shorty) passed away on December 24, 2012 at his home in Tempe, AZ. Servando was born on March 12, 1923 in Superior, AZ. He served in the 8th Army Air Force during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He became a school teacher, coach, principal and later superintendent in the Superior Unified School District where he spent most of his career. He also served as superintendent in the Wilson School District in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Arvizu. Together they had eight children: sons, Andy, Bob and George; daughters, Gloria (deceased), Elisa, Helen, Lydia and Mary; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Francis Church in Superior, AZ on Saturday, December 29th at 12:00 noon. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army at www.donate.salvationarmyusa.org Arrangements entrusted to Tempe Mortuary.
