Dr. Thomas Cosmas died peacefully in his home in Lakeside, AZ on December 7th, 2012. Tom was born in Kenilworth, Utah in 1928. He was born in a coal mining town, to a coal mining family. As a teenager, Tom moved with his mother and brothers to San Diego, CA. Tom returned to Utah and attended the University of Utah. Tom later attended Tulane University in New Orleans, where he met his future wife, Wenonah Shipman. Tom and Wenonah married in 1959. Soon after, they headed to Guadalajara, Mexico where Tom attended medical school. After graduation Tom and Wenonah spent time in Atlanta, GA while Tom served his internship at Piedmont Hospital. They eventually relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where Tom was on staff at Maryvale and Phoenix Baptist Hospital. In Phoenix they started a family. Tom practiced internal medicine for over 40 years, and improved the lives of countless thousands of people. Tom loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was involved in his church, and was a source of comfort for many people who knew him. Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wenonah, and his three children: Maiken McDaniel, Mark Cosmas and David Cosmas. One of the great sources of joy in Tom's life was the births of his grandchildren: Ashten, Taylor, Mia, Sean and Cade. Tom was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a physician and a friend. He was loved and he will be missed. Services will be held at Hansen Desert Hills at 65th St. and Bell Rd. on Friday December, 14th at 1:00.
