82, passed away January 12, 2013 from complications of a stroke. Born on December 8, 1930 in Elyria, Ohio to Joseph and Madeline Datena, he moved to Phoenix at the age of 13. He attended Phoenix Union High School and later served in the Army during the Korean War. He founded Clean Air Company and Vertom Corporation, both valley businesses, and he was a member of the Lion's Club and of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration Air Conditioning Engineers. He also served as co-founder and enthusiastic block watcher in the Rancho Ventura Neighborhood Association. A man of integrity in all of his endeavors, he was known for his generous spirit and sense of humor. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Virginia, daughter Cassandra, son-in-law Scott Hayman, and grandchildren Madeline and William Hayman, as well as a brother and sister-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and friends. His three sisters, Rose, Violet, and Eleanor preceded him in death.
A viewing will be held Tuesday January 22 at 1:30pm at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd, immediately followed by a funeral
at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Salvation Army Southwest Division, 2707 E. Van Buren St. Phoenix, AZ 85008, attn: Deb Oberhamer.
