W. David Somers passed away on April 12, 2014 at the age of 86. He was born January 6, 1928 in Ohio, where he was married in Pepper Pike, Ohio to Joan Lien, in 1953. David and Joan had two sons, Timothy and Scott. David graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Agriculture and Applied Science preceding to his entrepreneurship and very successful career owning and expanding Powerderhorn Nursery from 1969 to 1993. We are grateful for his service in the US Army and his time served in the Korean War. David's hobbies included restoring old cars and woodworking with his sons. He enjoyed skiing, traveling overseas, ice skating, golf, and playing hockey. David is preceded in death by his mother Betty, father Chuck, wife Joan Lien Somers and his son Timothy John. Survived by his son Scott David, grandchildren Kyle James and Sarah Ann, and long-time life companion Geri Blum. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Lien McBride and nieces Heather McBride-Atherton and Erin McBride Baker. David will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, contagious smile, wisdom, strength in character, and for being a true gentleman. David was a phenomenal role model for family and friends, and his legacy will impact the lives of those he left behind. Services will be held at Green Acres on the NE corner of Hayden and McKellips on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 1pm with a gathering to following.
