Walden, Walter Charles
born April 23, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; was welcomed in Heaven on February 5, 2013, after a short illness. Walter developed an early passion for both athletics and outdoor adventure. He achieved Eagle Scout and Scout Rifle Club Pro-Marksmanship status in 1944 and graduated from Janesville High School as a member of the Conference Champion Varsity Relay Track Team after achieving a new conference record for running the 880 yard dash. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Phoenix College, and graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Economics at Arizona State College, (currently ASU) in 1953. While attending college, Walter served in the Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes and throughout Central and South America. He was active in local community projects serving with the Phoenix Junior Chamber of Commerce Rodeo and performing in the local Little Theater productions. Walter was also an alumnus of the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
During college, he began working as an Insurance Actuary which developed into a successful career in the insurance industry, culminating as the Chief Executive Officer of Great Lakes American Life Insurance Company and Annuity Life Insurance Company; along with sixteen holding companies and numerous real estate holdings.
Walter was a successful gentle man with a passion for life and adventure. He was the eldest son of Walter and Bertha Amanda Marie Walden.
Walter is survived by his cherished companion and loving wife of twenty-two years Jackie Jean Walden, their children Amanda Jacqueline Lee Walden, 14, and Walter Charles Walden, Junior, 11; Walter's son, Eric Charles Walden 53, and grandchild, Zane Walden 13, of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Walter's brother Colonel Robert John Walden and his wife Altrice Elmira Walden of Williamsburg, Virginia. Memorial Services followed by refreshments: will be held Thursday 14 February 2013 4:30 P.M.
