Holloway, William
92, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Bill, as his friends knew him, was born in Philadelphia on May 14, 1921. His mother Irma Holloway adopted him as an infant. During his grade school years he lived with his Mother in Bryn Mar, Pennsylvania. Bill received his high school diploma from West Philadelphia High School in 1939 and Bachelor of Arts from Arizona State College at Tempe in 1954. Bill enlisted in the Army in June of 1942. Military honors include being awarded the Bronze Star. He received an Honorable Discharge in October 1945. After a year at home, he enlisted in the Coast Guard in March of 1947. His service with the Coast Guard ended with an Honorable Discharge in March of 1950. At that time, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Bill taught school for many years, inspiring many students with his love for history, math, science, and astronomy. He was very active as a Boy Scout leader. Bill spent many hours at Camp Geronimo, telling tall tales and ghost stories with his vivid imagination. Bill's many friends are invited to gather on Monday, June 17th at 6:00 pm for buffet dinner, followed by a short memorial at 7:00 at the Encanto Park Clubhouse/Boathouse at 2605 N. 15th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ to share stories of Bill's life. He was a great friend who will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honor of Bill to the .
