Gerald I. (Jerry) Verrill Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) I. Verrill , 69, of Marysville, CA, passed away on August 28, 2014, at Rideout Hospital, Marysville, CA. A Yuba-Sutter resident for 38 years born on July 31, 1945 in Lewiston, ME.

He was in the United States Air Force & a School Bus Driver for East Nicolaus High School. He retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant and was a Vietnam Veteran. Jerry spent his career in the Aircraft Maintenance Field working on the Aircraft Egress Systems.

Survivors include Cynthia Verrill, wife of 20 years of Marysville, CA, Shelly Verrill Maxwell, daughter, McLoud, OK, Timothy J. Bennett, stepson, U.S.A. Fort Stewart, GA, John Verrill, brother, Calera, OK, Thomas Verrill, brother, Louisville, KY, Michael Verrill, brother, Lewiston, ME, June Verrill DeCoster, sister, Lewiston, ME, Holly Bennett, daughter-in-law, Ft. Stewart, GA, six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews

Preceded in death by his parents, Howard M. Verrill and Irene M. Barrett Verrill, and his son, Jason Wade Verrill.

Jerry was very active in his community. He was on the board for the Annual Yuba-Sutter Veteran's Day Parade and was responsible for coordinating the needed volunteers. He was a life member of American Legion Post 807 and is a Past Post 807 and District 4 Commander. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a Charter member of Voiture 557 of the 40 & 8.

As a life member of Sierra Chapter 195 of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, he served as a Board member and is a Past Chapter Chairman and current Vice Chairman. He was also a member of the Knights of the Square Table, Order of the Sword.

He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4095. Jerry has also spent the last 30 years as a volunteer with the Yuba-Sutter Special Olympics as a coach and volunteer recruitment. He was also involved with the Lindhurst Moose Lodge 454 and is a Past Lodge Governor. He attained the 4th Degree rank in the Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marysville.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Manuel Ponce, Officiating. A "Celebration of Life" will follow at American Legion Post 807 at 12:00 PM. Burial will be Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. Military Honors provided by Travis AFB Honor Guard. Arrangement under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St. Yuba City.
