Allen B. Berwald, 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at North Kansas City Hospital with his daughter, Jane Howe and son, John Berwald at his side. Allen battled lung disease for nearly 8 years. He is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Allen was born April 7, 1937 in Sisseton, South Dakota, the son of Earnest and Evelyn Berwald. He served in the United States Navy and was a Veteran of the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge with several medals. He was a farmer and home builder also receiving many awards. He loved to fish and play Black Jack at the casino whenever he was able. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; his first wife, Versella (Sally) Evans; second wife, Shirley Berwald and a daughter, Marion Berwald. He is survived by 7 children, Jane Howe (Kansas City, MO), Luther Berwald (Lee Summit, MO), Randy Berwald (Butler, MO), Vickie Twedt (Clovis, CA), Doreen Rhodus (Kearney, MO), John Berwald (Overland Park, KS) and Michael Berwald (Butler, MO); 22 grandchildren; 5 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 26th at 1:00 pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1010 8th Street South, Brookings, South Dakota. Condolences may be left at www.stineandmcclurechapel.com.
