Eugene Otto was born March 3, 1926 to Adolph Gustaf Otto and Ida Olga Schulz Otto. He was raised on a farm near Radium, MN. and graduated from 8th in 1940. He worked on a farm near Oslo, MN and in 1942 at the Navy Yard in Bremerton, WA. He attended H.S. in Warren, MN, and Richmond, CA, and played on the All Conference Football Team.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, in Germany and France during WWII.
He graduated from Moorhead State College with a teaching degree and he met his college sweetheart, Vivian Grace Kruger. They were married in Wheaton, MN, on June 10, 1951.
Eugene served during the Korean War from 1951-52, stationed at Fort Rucker, AL, and later as Captain in the Army National Guard from 1955-1964 near Rapid City.
From 1952-68 Eugene taught math, and industrial arts at Rapid City H.S. and West Jr. H.S. in Rapid City, SD. He was honored as Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year in 1967. He became a professor at NSU, Aberdeen, and taught printing, design, advanced photography, and driver's education from 1968-79.
After retiring from teaching, he became co-owner of Pronto Printing. From 1982-89, he owned and operated ACE Appliance and Repair.
Eugene was District Governor for the SD Lions Club, District 5SE from 1989-90. He was an active member of Lions Club for over 30 years, and of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen for over 40 years.
He resided at Touchmark at All Saints since 2009. Eugene passed away on Feb. 4, 2013.
Eugene is survived by one daughter-Jan (Don) Bridge of Chino Hills, CA; one son-David(Rayla) Otto of Renner, SD; five grandchildren: Lisa (Michael) Silveira of Lobelville, TN; Steven Bridge of Peoria, IL; Melanie Bridge of Miami, FL; Ryan Otto and Nicholas Otto of Renner, SD; two great-grandchildren: Elijah and Isabel Silveira of Lobelville, TN; one brother, Junius(Mike) Otto of Warren, MN.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vivian Otto, and son Marty Otto.
Eugene Otto's viewing will be Friday, Feb. 8 from 5-7 p.m. at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 9, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 214 Seventh Ave. S.W., Aberdeen, SD.
