Memorial service for Evelyn "Evie" M. Lester Hauck, 80, Aberdeen will be 10:30 am, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Hyle Anderson and Pastor Nathan Henschen will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Aberdeen.
Evelyn Lester, daughter of Harry and Martha (Streckfuss) Lester was born on December 18, 1932 on the family farm near Mina. This is the area where she was raised and attended country school. Evie went on to attend school in Mina for a few years and later graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. She attended Northern Normal receiving her Teachers Certificate and taught school for a short time. She later returned to Northern receiving her Bachelors degree and pursued her Masters degree.
Evie raised her family and lived several places prior to returning to Aberdeen. She was united in marriage to Bill Hauck on October 21, 1988 in Sioux Falls. Evie worked for the State of South Dakota and the couple made their home at Mina Lake. Her beloved husband died on May 23, 1991. Evelyn made her home in Aberdeen where she remained until the time of her death.
Evie was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She loved to read and also enjoyed baking. Evie had a real love for nature and animals. She always enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and cherished the time she was able to spend with them. Evie was devout in her faith and remained strong and independent throughout her life.
Grateful for having shared Evie's life are her three children, Nolan (Melinda) Orr, Pierre, SD; Kerry Orr, Albuquerque, NM; and Robert Orr III, Pasco, WA; four grandchildren, Lisa, Richard, Karisa and Thomas; one great grandson, Connor; one sister, Beverly (Jim) Graham and one sister-in-law, Ellen Lester.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Martha Lester; husband, Bill Hauck; two daughters, Susan Michaud and Angie Orr; three brothers, Harry Lester Jr., William Lester and Robert Lester and one sister, Darlene Rogers.
