Jim Fenner, 95, of Sioux Falls, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
James H. Fenner was born July 8, 1919 at Cordele, TX. He grew up in Texas where he received his education, graduating from high school in Edna, TX. He furthered his education at the University of Texas and at Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, earning a Master's of Divinity Degree.
In November of 1940, he entered military service and served in the US Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1953. He went on to serve in the Air Force Reserves until 1964.
On June 8, 1957 he was united in marriage with Ruth Carolyn Pratt in Lawrenceville, NJ. Jim served as a Presbyterian pastor for 30 years. He pastored churches in Nacogdoches, and Texarkana, TX; was a campus minister at Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at El Paso and the Statewide Campus Ministry Executive. He was most recently the Executive Presbyter of South Dakota and was as an interim in Indiana. He retired from the ministry in 1986.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Mark Fenner, Margue Fenner (Daryl Skancke) and Steve Fenner, all of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Ruth on August 17, 2011.
Funeral services will begin 10:00 am Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 am on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Jim Fenner Fund at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
