February 21, 1927 in Brookings, South Dakota to the late Otto W.H. Hanson and Sue Stickley Hanson. He died on Saturday, March 16, 2013. Mr. Hanson grew up in Sioux Falls, SD, leaving for good in 1955. A 1945 graduate from Washington HS in Sioux Falls. He attended Augustana College and graduated from Sioux Falls Colleges, in 1951. He pursued post graduate studies at the University of South Dakota. Yet, he earned both his Master's and Doctoral Degrees from the Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis. After graduation he pursued a career in research and teaching at the Indiana University and The Ohio State University College of Medicine in the Department of Physiology. He retired from OSU as a Professor Emeritus in 1992 after 26 years of service. He was also affiliated with the Gastrointestinal Laboratory at Grant Medical Center, in Columbus from 1980 to 1995. His memberships, both professional societies and honorary included: The American Physiological Society, American Men of Science, Ohio Academy of Science, Scientific Research Society of America, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine and Society of Sigma XI. He is also listed in Leaders of American Science and Who's Who in American Education. He has authored and co-authored over 60 scientific publications on topics in several areas of Physiology. Traveling and seeing the world was more than a hobby. He was proud to say that he had set foot on all seven continents. He is survived by his wife Sue Wilke; children Bruce A. and Angela S. Hanson; grandchildren Alex, Kenny and Samantha Hanson; step-children Rinehart (Melody) Wilke, IV, Lisa (Dan) Brown, Robert (Lori) Wilke and David (Kandice) Wilke; step grandchildren Rinehart, V, Chad, Maison, Taylor and Riley Love Wilke; Maggie, Abby and Wes Brown; Meghan, Mac, Charlie, Henry and Kaitlyn Wilke. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH 43221. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to our funeral home. A private interment will take place next to his parents in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.
