LaVerne Roth, 89, Sioux Falls, died June 28th at Prince of Peace.
Visitation will begin at 8:00 am with the family present from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 8th at First Congregational Church, Sioux Falls. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery Sturgis, SD.
LaVerne Edgar Roth was born March 3, 1924 in Mansfield, SD, to Robert and Edith Roth. He was the class valedictorian of the 1942 Class of Cresbard H.S. He was a WWII veteran, having served the Army in the SW Pacific and in the military government in occupied Japan.
In 1951, LaVerne married Gloria Perry in Cresbard, SD. His 33 year career with the SD Game, Fish & Parks began as Game Warden and later Regional Supervisor in Lemmon, Aberdeen and Mobridge. LaVerne was an avid outdoorsman, a Boy Scout leader, and a member of the SD Peace Officers, Elks, Moose, Rotary and sportsman clubs. As a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW he served as Commander of several posts.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 62 years, Gloria, along with their three children: Clayton (Chris) Roth, Lake Oswego, OR; Karen (Randy) Reinartz, Sioux Falls; and Brenda (Charles lll) Callahan, Rochester, NY; eight grandchildren: Kate Roth of Lake Oswego; Corey Weide, Beth Lubbers, Tara Whiting, Luke Houlihan all of Sioux Falls; and Charlene Borden, Miriam Callahan, Brandon Callahan of Rochester; and seven great grandchildren.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Elmer Roth and son-in-law Terry Houlihan.
