Leo Twedt, 92, of Montrose passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, October 25 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Montrose. Visitation will begin at 12 pm on Thursday at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem with family present from 6-8 pm and a 7 pm prayer service.
Leo Twedt was born in Pleasant Township near Beresford, SD on March 21, 1921 to Elmer and Gunhild (Severson) Twedt. He entered the US Navy and served in WWII in the Asian Theater. In 1946 he married Lorraine Albers and this union was blessed with four children. Lorraine passed away in 1973. In 1979 he married Florence Thompson. She passed away in 1998.
Leo was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Montrose as well as the Montrose VFW/Legion Post. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Leo is survived by his children, Lavonne (Larry) Bezug of Menno, Lloyd (Claudia) Twedt of Canton, SD, Larry (Laurie) Twedt of Montrose, and Lyle (Pam) Twedt of Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren, Brenda Edelman, Eldon Twedt, Casey Mason, Shawnya McGregor, Kari Katzer, Jeff Twedt, and Amanda Painter; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bev Wright and Delores McKenna of Sioux Falls, and Audrey Mattheis of Hartford, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, a granddaughter, Laura Bye, three brothers, Bob, Kenny, and Wilbur and a sister, Arlene Jurgenson. www.kinzleyfh.com
