Sioux Falls -Luella K. Mengenhasuen, 88, died Tuesday December 3, 2013 in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday December 7, 2013 at St. Therese Catholic Church followed by interment at St Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 1:00 PM Friday at George Boom Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 PM.

Luella Kathryn Winter, daughter of Alfred and Maria (Lindemann) Winter, was born November 19, 1925 at Parkston, SD. She grew up at Parkston where she attended Kline District #73 School. She was united in marriage with Matthias John Mengenhausen on February 5, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Matt preceded her in death on February 27, 1986.

Luella worked as a waitress for Smitty's Pancake House/Perkins for over 24 years before retiring in 1987. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and the people she served. She was an avid bowler and in later years enjoyed Wii bowling at Active Generations. Luella also thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo with family and friends. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and John M. Bliss VFW Auxiliary Post #628.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Carolyn (Eckhard) Clausen, Chaska, MN, Kathleen Engel, Mound, MN, Laurie (William) Fluit, Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Michael (Kelly) Clausen, Kristen (Brian) Edds, Jason (Jenny) Engel, Jeremy (Jennifer) Engel, and Heather Fluit; eight great grandchildren, Ethan Engel, Jack Redfearn, Riley Edds, Elijah Engel, Kai Engel, Oliver Engel, Aiden Edds, and Adelyn Engel; one sister, Elsa Hall, Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Luella was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; three sisters, Agnes Heller, Anna Schoon, and Nelda Semmler.
