Sioux Falls - Merle Andrew Chase, age 82, died on Monday, April 28, 2014.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2014 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Merle Andrew Chase, son of Earl and Erma (Johnson) Chase, was born June 27, 1931 at Montrose, SD. He received his education at Hartford, SD. He began work for John Morrell & Co. in 1950 and then served with the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Merle returned to Morrell's where he worked for 37 years retiring in 1988. He then worked part-time for Best Commercial Cleaners for 10 years retiring from there in 1998.

Merle was united in marriage with Luella Mae Beckman on September 21, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. After their marriage the couple lived at Brandon, SD before moving to Sioux Falls in 1981. Merle enjoyed his yard and his vehicles but above all, he enjoyed sharing his life with Luella, his children, and grandchildren.

Merle was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, John M. Bliss VFW Post #628, and American Legion Post #15.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Luella Chase, Sioux Falls; his children, Cheryle Emmons, Sioux Falls, Debbie (Jim) Thielen, Harrisburg, SD; two grandchildren, Bryce (Lindsey) Emmons, Chaska, MN, and Jeana (Kenny) Madsen, Champlin, MN; two great grandchildren, Cylas and Deelia Emmons; and one brother, Glenn Chase, Red Bluff, CA.

Merle was preceded by his parents and an infant sister, Lovene Chase.
