She had a beautiful life of happy family, a loving home and great travels. She will always be remembered as being very polite, and very kind, to all her family and friends.
Mildred Elizabeth Egge was born on December 16, 1912 on the Egge Farm--- 8 miles SE of Sioux Falls ---the 5th daughter of Julius and Martha Egge. She graduated from the "old" Washington High School in downtown Sioux Falls in 1932. She attended Augustana College for 2 years and earned a teaching certificate.
Mildred met her future husband Kenneth Steen at East Side Lutheran Church. They were married on August 1, 1937.
A son, Richard Palmer Steen, was born on April 13, 1943. A second son, Robert James, followed— in February of 1946. He died an hour after birth and is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sioux Falls. A third child, Karen Elizabeth, was born on June 6, 1949. Kenneth Steen passed away on July 27, 1970.
Mildred Steen had a wonderful life. She loved to travel and saw much of Europe, China and Australia. She especially loved her trip through the "Holy Land."
As a family, it was a trip every summer. She and Kenneth arranged great historic trips for Richard and Karen through every state in the United States—even if it meant home-made sandwiches all the way. As a family, it was New England, Florida one year and ---- Southern California the next. What they did for themselves and their kids!
In 1990 Mildred had the most amazing joy-—a Granddaughter—Kathryn Elizabeth Steen-—born to Richard and Jerry. She is now a graduate of Michigan State University.
Other people in Mildred's life have been: brothers passed on---Paul Egge, Marlow Egge, and Jay Egge. Her wonderful sisters: Dorothy Nelson, Gladys Evans, Geneve McClure, Jeanette Waswick, Ella Moon, Helen Obeslo, Francis Morisette.
Her sister, Corine Carlson is living in Las Vegas Nevada.
