Peter Bonenberger, 73, died Sunday, November 24, 2013, at his home in Brandon, SD. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls with burial to follow at the Beaver Valley Lutheran South Cemetery in rural Valley Springs, SD. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 29 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Peter (Pete) Paul Bonenberger Jr. was born at home in Atkinson, NE on June 15, 1940. He was born to parents Peter and Freda (Johnson) Bonenberger. He stayed in Atkinson until he joined the Air Force. He then moved to Omaha, NE where he met his wife, Jeanne (Peers). They were married July 7, 1962 and later had a son Don, born May 10, 1963.
Pete was Parts Manager for White Motor Co. and was later transferred to Sioux Falls where he soon started his own company, Dakota Gear and Joint in 1971. He operated this and other successful businesses over the years and was currently operating Big Trucks Inc., a used truck and trailer dealership along with Trans Motion, a growing truck fleet.
Pete loved spending time with his family. His granddaughters and great grandchildren were the light of his life. He was an avid walleye fisherman and was thrilled to be able to take his great grandson on his first Missouri River fishing trip this past summer.
Pete was a long-standing member of Hope Lutheran church in Sioux Falls and was a friend and supporter of the McCrossan Boys Ranch and many other local charities.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son Don (Lisa) Bonenberger, Brandon, SD, granddaughters, Holly Westcott, Rebecca (Tyler) Ellis, Emily Bonenberger, all of Sioux Falls SD, great-grandchildren Lily, Aiden, Samuel Peter, Campbell Carolyn, Rowan and Hazel, brothers, Richard Bonenberger and Ronald (Ellen) Bonenberger, sisters Dorothy Brau, Jean Degroff, and Mary Ann Albrecht, of NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Freda Bonenberger, brothers, Leo Larry and Roger, infant brother Glen, and his precious wife, Jeanne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to one of Pete's favorite charities or a charity of your choosing.
