Funeral services for Phyllis Krebs, 85, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:30 am Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be held Friday 5:00 to 8:00 pm with family present at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain, SD. Phyllis passed away on March 3, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Phyllis Frances Hille was born on May 8, 1928 in Hutchinson County, SD the daughter of Elta (Guthmiller) and Wilhelm Hille. When Phyllis was very young her father passed away and John Sayler became an important part of her life as her stepfather. She grew up and lived her childhood years in Hutchinson County; graduating from Tripp High School. Phyllis later graduated from Springfield College and obtained a teaching degree. She then moved to Chamberlain, SD, to teach elementary school. On August 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Marvin L. Krebs in Chamberlain. Phyllis raised five children with Marvin and the couple remained in their home in Chamberlain until moving to the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake in 2009. Phyllis and Marvin celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2010.
Phyllis was employed as an elementary school teacher for a short time before her children were born. After her children were older, she returned to teaching and was a Title I teacher with the Chamberlain School District for many years. She also worked in the family appliance store for a few years. Phyllis was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain and during her younger years an active member.
Phyllis passed away on March 3, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 85 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her three sons John of Chamberlain, SD, Bob of Indianola, IA, and Chuck of Vallejo, CA; daughter Sally Krebs of Chamberlain; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband Marvin, daughter Kathy; parents; stepfather John Sayler; and her sister Elaine Mattis.
