Raymond Berg

Raymond Berg, 82, Mitchell, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 30, 2013, 10:30 AM, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be Saturday, 2:00PM, at the Rosehill Cemetery in Parker. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30PM, Friday evening with a Scripture Service at 7:00PM, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Raymond Henry Berg was born to John and Josephine (Haler) Berg on April 17, 1931 in Emery SD. He grew up in the Emery area. On June 17, 1952 he entered the US Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March, 1954.

He was united in marriage to Doris Budde on June 2, 1958. They farmed south of Alexandria for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1994. They moved to Mitchell and Ray worked at Hendrickson Manufacturing for twelve years. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Post 41 of Alexandria and the Korean War Club.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of fifty-six years, Doris of Mitchell; two sons: Dan Berg of Lafayette LA and Brian (Lorrie) Berg of Sioux Falls SD; one daughter, Laura Berg of Sioux Falls SD; five grandchildren: Taylor (Breanna), Angel, Danny, Ivy and Brad; special friends: Brad LeBlanc and Char Skovlund; two brothers: Gerald Berg of Emery SD and John Berg of Yankton SD; three sisters: Regina (Louis) Nolz, Rita (Jerome) Weber all of Mitchell and Eleanor (Virgil) Weber of Spearfish SD and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and beloved grandson, America Gatluak.

Raymond Berg excelled at being the best father, husband, grandpa, brother, nephew and cousin. He was loved by many and he gave that love right back.

We all admired his continual honesty as he walked on this earth. Ray was an example of a true Christian.
