The Guest Book is expired.
Ruth Bovee, Sioux Falls, SD, died February 21, 2014, at Sanford Hospice Cottage. She was 87.
Ruth Esther (Rasmussen) Bovee was born February 27, 1926, at Elk Point, SD, to Oscar and Ella (Schultz) Rasmussen. Following her education, she moved to Sioux Falls where she became the manager of the Nickel Plate Cafe.
On January 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dale Bovee. As her husband, Dale, diligently perused his career as a firefighter with the SF Fire Department, Ruth became a homemaker and loving mother to their children. For a number of years, she also worked as a TupperWare distributor. In 1993, Ruth began working for the SF School District as a hostess in the hospitality rooms for athletic events. She loved working the sporting events as it gave her an opportunity to reestablish connections with people. This love for social engagements also kept her active with the monthly SF Retired Firefighter Breakfasts.
Ruth looked forward to summers spent at the family lake home at Madison. At the lake, Dale and Ruth maintained an extensive vegetable garden. At harvest time, Ruth looked forward to selling her harvest to loyal customers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always remained in the center of her life. She loved them all deeply and was proud of each of them.
Blessed with an outgoing spirit, Ruth had a remarkable way of quickly warming up to people, and seeing to their needs. Throughout her life, it seemed she was always doing something that would make somebody's life richer. In the midst of her own health problems, Ruth always remained strong. She led her life with a remarkable ability to see beyond the darker times and focus on the better times. This deep strength tempered with her warm and compassionate love will be forever missed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Toni Meile (Mark), Hartford, SD, Jo Ann Kono (Gary), Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara Intoppa (Louis), Wilmington, MA; grandchildren, Casey Meile (Laura), Nicole Anderson (Jason), Jason Kono (Becky) Kristin Kono (Elizabeth Okeson), Joyce Reilly (Dennis), Louis Intoppa (Jen), David Intoppa (Julie); 16 great-grandchildren, Ella, Payton, Faye, Jackson, Corbin, Lexis, Kaylee, Jacob, Julianne, Brian, Colin, John, Lacey, Leo, Ava, and Callie. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patti; five brothers, Donald, Robert, Lawrence, Emil, John; and a sister, Anna Relf.
