Amanda NORTHROP Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

NORTHROP, Amanda Amanda Stacy Northrop Amanda Northrop, 28, loved the Georgia Bulldogs; her Poodle, Madison; and, most of all, her family. Those who knew Amanda best will miss her creative spirit, selfless nature, beautiful eyes, and contagious laugh. Amanda was most devoted to her eight month old niece, McConnell Grace Gorman, whom she loved to babysit and spoil rotten, once buying her a teddy bear the size of a real bear. There was even a song dedicated to McConnell and Amanda appropriately titled "Aunt Mandy". Amanda spent countless hours caring for her Mom, Regina McConnell Northrop, during her battle with ovarian cancer, and she paid tribute to her memory through her volunteer activities and raising thousands of dollars for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. She attended Dunwoody High and graduated from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. Amanda was a champion swimmer while at Dunwoody High and helped them capture the County Championship. Amanda had friends from all walks of life and never met a stranger. After her Mom passed away in 2010 she, her dad, and sister would have their "Friday night date night" at Seasons 52 where they would catch-up over the week and look for a proper suitor for Amanda---the three were thick as thieves. Amanda Stacy Northrop died unexpectedly on July 27, 2013. Her family is comforted in that they know Amanda was welcomed to heaven by her mother with open arms. She is survived by her loving father, Robert Northrop of Dunwoody; her sister and best friend, Melissa Northrop Gorman of Peachtree Corners; her brother-in-law, Bryan Gorman; her niece, McConnell Grace Gorman; her uncles Richard McConnell of Roswell and William Northrop of Greensboro, NC; her aunts Myrna Wooldridge and Nell Treseder and husband Nick of Mt. Pleasant, S. C.; and many cousins. A memorial service will be held at Perimeter Church in Johns Creek, GA on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at 3 PM with Pastor Randy Pope officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund in tribute to Amanda Stacy Northrop at Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Penn Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122.
