Family-Placed Death Notice

GARCIA, Betty Davison BETTY DAVISON GARCIA Betty Davison Garcia, age 85, died at Hospice Atlanta on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with lung disease. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Callahan Davison. She is predeceased by her sister Margaret Davison Block and her son, Gordon Kenneth Garcia, Jr.. She is survived by her son, Thomas Brooks Garcia and her devoted caretaker of seventeen years, Johnnie Clarke. Betty , a native and life-long resident of Atlanta was a graduate of North Avenue Presbyterian School, Marjorie Webster College, the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority and the Parson School of Design in New York. She was a loyal and enthusiastic graduate of UGA where she established a scholarship in the School of Home Economics for a worthy student. Betty was an accomplished gardener, excellent flower arranger, outstanding cook and wonderful homemaker. She is a past member of the Rose Garden Club where she participated in all of its activities, especially at Hillside, Inc.. Betty had a long and distinguished career in retail. First working in Davison's downtown as a bridal consultant, then at Lord and Taylor at Phipps Plaza in clothing. She later worked for 25 years in the china and crystal department in Bridal Registry at Rich's at Lenox. She received many awards for her service, sales and impeccable taste working with young brides. There will be a visitation at Trinity Presbyterian Church from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, December 14, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made in Betty's memory to the Thomas Calahan Davison Scholarship Fund in medicine at Emory University. Her creative and generous spirit will be missed by those who love her.
