GOWING, Charles CHARLES JAMES GOWING The suffering ended for Charles James Gowing on Sunday July 13, 2014. He was 77. Charles James Gowing was born on April 16, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of Charles Vernon Gowing and Maude Kinney Gowing. He was a 1955 graduate of North Fulton High School and served in the US Army. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he became an accountant for General Motors, working more than 30 years at the Lakewood Plant. Charles was a long time member of Rock Spring Presbyterian Church. He served for many years on the board of the preschool program, falling in love with each new group of children every year. He was recently named Elder Emeritus. His service to young people also included volunteer work with the Boy Scouts. He served as Scout Master and committee member of BSA Troop 175, earning the Wood Badge and being awarded the Silver Beaver for outstanding service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Savilla Gowing, a sister, Alice Crooks, brother-in-law Bill Lovvorn, and a step daughter, Terri Gordon. Survivors include his wife Sandra Lovvorn Gowing of Carrollton; brother-in-law Bob Lovvorn and his wife Elaine of NC; his son Charles Carlisle Gowing and wife Mary of Tucker, GA; his daughter, Amanda Hawkins and her husband, Tim of Dalton, GA; stepsons, Elliott Gordon and wife, Ponda of Russellville, AL and Mark Gordon and wife, Christina, of Apple Valley, CA and his eight much loved grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00PM with the Reverends Karen Allamon, Jan Stewart-Talbert, and Elliott Gordon officiating. The family will receive friend at the Church at 12:30PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rock Spring Presbyterian Church or BSA Troop 175. A. S.
