Daneen IRVING Obituary

IRVING, Daneen Daneen M. Irving Daneen "Danny" Irving passed away on October 17 at the Embracing Hospice in Cumming, GA. She was born on November 21, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio. She is the wife of John Irving and the daughter of Daniel Julio and Josephine Birmingham Julio. She leaves an Uncle James Birmingham in Youngstown, 4 cousins in Tampa, Florida including Daniel, James, Patrick and Raymond Birmingham as well as her oldest and closest friend Maureen Kennedy in Roswell, GA. She attended St. Columba grade school and graduated from Ursuline High School in Youngstown, Ohio in 1961. Danny attended and received her Bachelor's degree in English literature from Youngstown State University in 1965. She was very active on campus in a wide variety of activities including the first freshman ever elected to student council, co-host of the YSU radio show, a writer on the Jambaar newspaper, and co-founder and chairman of Spring Weekend. She was a member of the Tri Sigma Sorority. Upon graduation she was awarded the YU pin as the student with the top combination of academic and extra-curricular achievements in her class. Danny married John Irving in 1970 and they were happily married for 43 years. They initially lived in Honolulu, Hawaii and then moved to Columbus where Danny received her Master's degree in social work from the Ohio State University. She was an associate director at the Columbus area Community Mental Health Center for many years. Danny and her husband moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1980 where Danny worked as Relocation Director for Caldwell Banker Real Estate. She retired from that position in 1987. She was an avid football fan, particularly Youngstown State and Ohio State Universities, loved to dance and was a great lover and benefactor of animals. She supported a number of animal organizations including Alley Cat Alliance, Angels for Animals and the Crabapple Knoll Stray Animal Program. Daneen was a bright, beautiful lady with a caring personality who left a lasting impression on all who met her. There will be no immediate formal service but there will be a memorial service at the Embracing Hospice later in the year when she is added to their tree of life.
