Family-Placed Death Notice
WORFUL, Sr., Douglas Douglas Eugene Worful, Sr. 7/18/1947- 4/18/2013 Douglas Eugene Worful, Sr. of Roswell, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his home on 4/18/13. He was a loving father, grandfather, and dear friend to many. Doug thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and truly lived life to the fullest. Douglas Eugene Worful, Sr. was born in Louisville, KY to Helen (Shade) and Ernest Worful. He spent his childhood training and showing Tennessee Walking Horses and was a student at Kentucky Country Day. He attended Sewanee University and the University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. During his college years, he enjoyed riding bulls and training hunting dogs. After graduation, Doug lived in both Martinsville, IN and Louisville, KY before residing in Lexington, KY for the next 25 years. He was an avid marathon runner and developed a love for swimming as well. When he moved to Atlanta in 2000, Doug found a new way to enjoy the water: kayaking. He made many cherished friends on the rivers of north Georgia. During this time, he established Onsite Dental Services to care for patients residing in senior living communities. Doug suffered a spinal cord injury while mountain biking in December 2009, but was determined not to let his new way of life slow him down. He became an active volunteer at the Shepherd Center, which gave him tremendous strength and purpose. He hoped to give back to others all that had been given to him. Doug was also a member of Stonecreek Church in Milton, Georgia. He joyfully served on the host team and greeted everyone with a smile. Douglas Eugene Worful, Sr. is survived by his children, Douglas Worful, Jr (Jennifer) of Alpharetta, GA and Mona Davidson (Mike) of Bedford, MA; his brother, Stephen Worful (Anne Sheadel) of Louisville, KY,. He also was loved by his grandchildren/ beanos: Alaina, Georgia, Reese, and Rhett. A memorial service will be held 10:30am, Saturday, May 18th at Boyd's Gap Overlook by the Ocoee River near Ducktown, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shepherd Center Foundation in his name. The family wishes to express its gratitude to both the Shepherd Center and Agape Hospice for all their care and dedication during his final months. Please express condolences at www.southcare.us.
