THORNWELL, Jr., Edward Allison EDWARD ALLISON THORNWELL, JR. Edward Allison Thornwell, Jr., died at his home in Ponte Vedra, Florida, on Thursday, July 17. He was 85 years old. The eldest of three sons, Mr. Thornwell was born on October 2, 1928, in Atlanta to Jennie Robinson Thornwell and Edward Allison Thornwell, Sr. He was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, attended E. Rivers School, North Fulton High School, and graduated from Baylor School and the University of Georgia. He also attained a law degree from Atlanta Law School. He was married to the late Gloria Hogan Thornwell for 58 years until her death in 2009. Mr. Thornwell was Chairman of the Board of the Atlanta Chiefs Soccer Club, Executive Vice President of the Atlanta Braves, and served on the boards of the Atlanta Braves and Turner Broadcasting System in the 1970's and 1980's. He is survived by his son Edward Allison Thornwell, III, his daughter Karen Thornwell May and her husband Manuel Anthony May, his grandsons Theodore Anthony May and Allison Thornwell May, and his brother James Robinson Thornwell. Family services will be private.
