Family-Placed Death Notice

CHEVES, Ida Lee The death on April 20, 2013 of a true lady, mother, companion and friend, Ida Lee Cheves, 87 of Dahlonega, Georgia occurred peacefully at her residence. Born September 22, 1925 to the late Anton F. Solms, Sr. and Annie Lee Woods Solms, she was born and raised in Savannah, GA. After attending public schools in Savannah, she matriculated from The University of Georgia with a BBA degree. She was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and was involved in campus activities, one of which was being a freshman sports reporter for The Red and Black campus paper. Ida Lee had her social clubs, volunteered with the Red Cross during the Korean Conflict and most significantly was a Pink Lady at Northside Hospital for 37 years...A Caring Lady who could be counted on to "Be There". Each morning began with a bright Good Mawning and a little hug. Then several times a day when we were getting ready to do something, the little singing phrase "off we go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sky" would come out. Hope both of us will go that way. She was predeceased by all of her siblings, Tony, Jr., James, Selma, William and Walter. Miss Ida Lee married James P. Cheves, Jr. of Atlanta in 1949 where they lived and raised three children. Surviving along with her husband, affectionately known as Buck, are the children and their spouses, James P. Cheves, III, Thomas Gilbert and Brenda Cheves, Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" and Wayne Smith, three granddaughters and a great granddaughter. Interment services will be held Tuesday April 23, 2013 at 11 o'clock at Arlington Memorial Park. Rev. Maitland Laforce will officiate. Condolences may be expressed at www.beardenfuneralhome.com.
