Family-Placed Death Notice
CHAPMAN, J. William May 3, 1923 - April 15,2013 Bill Chapman, 89, of Lanier Village Estates, Gainesville GA passed away on April 15, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He now joins the love of his life, his wife Jeanne who passed away in November 2012. Bill was born to Judson W. and Zena H. Chapman in Greenville SC. He loved writing, influenced by his father the editor of the Greenville News/Piedmont. Bill met Jeanne at Beloit College in Wisconsin. After a wartime letter writing romance, Jeanne and Bill were married in Oak Park, IL and then moved to Greenville, SC. Jeanne and Bill moved to Atlanta, GA in 1957 where Bill worked with Chapman and Associates, Inc. They retired to Big Canoe, GA and in 2003 made LVE their home. Bill was known for his humor, his generosity and his love for his wife and his family. Bill was an avid golfer and continued writing for newspapers in Big Canoe and Lanier Village. Along with his signature reply of "fantastic" Bill always had a smile and joke ready. His generosity to various church, library and community organizations will be greatly missed. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne and his daughter Shirley Oliver. Bill is survived by his son Rusty (wife Carol); son James (wife Sharon); daughter Melody Staten (husband Alan); John Oliver (wife Cara Altimus); grandchildren Michael Chapman (wife Sherree); Samantha Cruz (husband James); Kelly Chapman; Heather Chapman; Trevor Staten (wife Hayley); Belinda Staten; and great-grandchildren Sydnee, Ryan, Tyler, Jackson and Shaylee Chapman; Mia and Logan Cruz. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the chapel in Lanier Village Estates, 3700 Thompson Bridge Rd., Gainesville. GA 30506 officiated by Chaplain Richard Evans and Daniel Hagmaier, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church.
