Family-Placed Death Notice

Dr. James Boyd Dunaway, age 87, passed away at his home in Griffin, Georgia on November 22, 2013. In 1951 Jim was accepted to Emory University School of Medicine where he did his Pediatric Training at Emory-Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Upon completing his Residency, he was commissioned a Captain in the United States Air Force where he served at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi through 1961. Upon completing his Air Force service he moved to Griffin, Georgia where he practiced for the next 38 years. Jim also was a former Chief of Staff at Spalding Regional Medical Center. He also was a member of the Spalding County Hospital Authority for over a decade. He is survived by his wife, Eve Robuck Dunaway, and a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James Boyd Dunaway, Jr. and Lynn Peters Dunaway and their children James and Blair of Griffin, Georgia; a daughter, Diane Dunaway Boles and husband James Sanders Boles, and their daughter Daysha also of Griffin; a daughter Ginny Dunaway Hobbs and husband Michael Dickinson Hobbs, of Atlanta; and their children Evelyn, Ted, and Virginia. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dell Dunaway of Seaford, Delaware; a niece, Evelyn Dunaway Thompson and her husband Jon of Houston, Texas; and nephews John Dunaway of Walnut Creek, California, Bob Dunaway of Seaford, Delaware, and Benjamin Edwin Robuck III and his wife Angela Orler Robuck of Newnan, Georgia. The Funeral service was held Sunday, November 24, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Griffin, Georgia and Graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to: Stepping Stones, 141 Futral Rd., Griffin GA 30224; The First Baptist Church Children's Toy Shop, 106 W. Taylor Street, Griffin, GA 30224; or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 798, Griffin, GA 30224. Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, Griffin, GA was in charge of arrangements.
