Family-Placed Death Notice
OWENS, John Warren John Warren Owens died peacefully on March 18, 2013, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in New Orleans March 2, 1945, John was the second of the three children of John and Mimi Owens. Overcoming early childhood nephritis, John embraced sports and life becoming an avid swimmer, little league baseball player, golfer, and guitarist who lettered in football and track before his graduation from W.F. Dykes High School, Atlanta, in 1963. John's passion for golf lasted his entire life. He constructed and repaired golf clubs, and played as an avid week-end warrior at golf courses in and around Atlanta and north GA. A loving son, brother, friend and honest man, John is held in high esteem by scores of friends from high school, University of Georgia, National Guard and colleagues from his career as an IT specialist in the utilities and energy industries. Contrasting his love for life and friends, John often sought solitude. To his final days he was stoic and brave, and he faced death with courage and wit. ..."Born of the sun, he traveled awhile with the sun, And left the vivid air signed with his honor." John is survived by his sister Judith Owens Earl; and brother Bill and wife Elizabeth Owens; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and 8 grandnieces and nephews. In memory of John, the family requests that donations be made to the Halcyon Hospice Foundation.
