Kathy COPELAND

Obituary Condolences

Family-Placed Death Notice

COPELAND, Kathy Kathy Copeland, born Thanksgiving Day in 1948, passed away peacefully after a short but fierce battle with breast cancer on Thursday, October 24, 2013. Born Kathryn Cynthia Wellborn in Greenville, MS, she along with her parents Marianne and Bill Wellborn and her siblings Maribeth, Gail and Bart moved from state to state, always below the Mason Dixon line. Kathy graduated from East Texas State University with a B.A. in Education but made her career as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Georgia, where she retired in 2004. It was during her career with the State of Georgia that she met her husband, Bill Copeland. They were married in 1978 and adopted their only child, Lily Kate, in 1987. Kathy's husband, Bill, died in 2010 after an extended illness. After his death Kathy found solace in a loving and joy-filled relationship with a former colleague, Larry Spearman. Kathy is survived by her parents, siblings, daughter and boyfriend, all of whom were there in the last days of her life. Although Kathy seemed somewhat reserved in nature, those who knew her found a selfless, fun-loving, generous person. Before her illness you could find her watching Fox News, reading the newspaper, mastering the local crossword puzzle, tending to her yard, and listening to Oldies nearly every day. This loving mother, daughter, sister, girlfriend, and friend will be greatly missed by all lucky enough to know her. Her memorial service will be held at the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, 800 Lawrenceville Hwy S, Lawrenceville, GA, 30046, at 11 AM on Monday, October 28, 2013.
