Family-Placed Death Notice
MYERS, Lewis Dr. Lewis Albert Myers, 82, of Canterbury Court, Atlanta, died at Piedmont Hospital on March 3, 2013. Dr. Myers was a native of Florence, South Carolina, where he was born on August 11, 1930, to Ehrin Mae Hyman and J. Monroe Myers. He had been a resident of Atlanta since 1970 and of Canterbury Court since 1999. Dr. Myers received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, his divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary, and advanced degrees from Union Seminary (New York), Vanderbilt University and New York University. Until his retirement Dr. Myers was a respected and loved teacher at the Westminster School for twenty years. He was a communicant of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and had been very active in the work of the parish. He served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer of Crossroads Community Ministries, a ministry to the homeless population near St. Luke's. He also served as a volunteer at the Shepherd Hospital. Dr. Myers loved his many students and friends at Westminster, Canterbury Court, and St. Luke's, and his good friends of over fifty years, Dr. and Mrs. Marcus M. Gulley (Sally) of Winston-Salem, N. C. A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Myers's life will be at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree Street, Friday, April 5, at 2:00 pm. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 and Canterbury Court, 3750 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30319.
