Lloyd Gordon Dahler Obituary
DAHLER, Lloyd Gordon LLOYD GORDON DAHLER Retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer, Lloyd Gordon Dahler, 86, passed away peacefully on August 18 at Peachtree Christian Hospice after a courageous battle with pancratic cancer. He was born on March 4, 1928 in Havre, Montana to the late Martin and Nellie Dahler. A 1946 graduate of Flathead County High School, he married his sweetheart, Betty Gonsior, in Kalispell, Montana in 1950. He later joined the US Navy in 1951, making his career as an Air Traffic Controller. They had the opportunity to live in many places, compliments of the US Navy, from Midway Island to Newfoundland, Canada. Retiring after 30 years of service from the Navy at Barbers Point, Hawaii, Lloyd continued working at Barbers Point as a DOD employee, as well as serving as Operations Manager for the Control Tower at Ford Island in Hawaii. The Dahler home was always open to wayward travelers and their children learned hospitality from their parents' example. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his shipmates via email and reunions. He loved his family dearly and frequently asked if we were ready to lose at a game of cards or dominos! Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lila Gorton, Evelyn Pierson and Vernon Dahler, and great-grandson, Glen Gregory "Tripp" Copponex, III. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty R. Dahler, daughters Terry (Larry), Laurie, Julie (John) and Jeanette (Tracy), seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews and his cherished Navy friends. His Memorial Service is 2pm, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, GA. Interment with Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Lloyd's name to Peachtree Christian Hospice, The or to the Christ the Lord Lutheran Church Building Fund.
