FOWLER, Mary "Suzie" MARY H. FOWLER Mrs. Mary H. "Suzie" Fowler, age 93, of Douglasville passed away April 8, 2013. She was born in Atlanta, GA on September 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Joseph Hodgson and Lillian Logan Hodgson. Suzie graduated in 1937 from Washington Seminary in Atlanta and then attended the University of Georgia. She served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was a member of The American Red Cross during WWII, serving in Italy. On August 18, 1945 she married Alpha A. 'Sonny' Fowler, Jr. who was serving in the U.S. Air Force in Capri, Italy. Mrs. Fowler was a Sunday School teacher for approximately 65 years at the First Baptist Church of Douglasville (The Joy Class). A lifelong poet with two published volumes to her credit and numerous short stories she was named Poet Laureate of Douglas County. On December 19, 1969 she obtained her pilot's license. Suzie was known for her gourmet desserts. Mrs. Fowler was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a committed believer in Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband Alpha A. "Sonny" Fowler, Jr. and her granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Fowler. Surviving are her sons Alpha Alsbury Fowler, III, MD and his wife Katherine Smith Fowler, Joseph Hodgson Fowler and his wife Carol Fowler, Raymond Logan Fowler, MD and Edward "Ned" Milton Fowler and his wife Mary Susan Fowler; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous in-laws and extended family members. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at The First Baptist Church of Douglasville. The Funeral Service will be Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM at The First Baptist Church of Douglasville. Dr. John Pennington will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park. Representatives of the Alpha Class will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Suzie's memory to the Margaret Marchman Fund for Christian Education, First Baptist Church of Douglasville, 5900 Prestley Mill Rd., Douglasville, GA 30135.
