Family-Placed Death Notice
SHIRK, Michael Allan Michael Allan Shirk of Alpharetta died Feb. 10 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. He was 60.Michael worked for more than 25 years as a business systems analyst for companies including Boeing, Weyerhaeuser and AT&T. Over the years, he and his wife, Betsy Crabill Shirk, and family lived in Georgia, Washington, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Saudi Arabia. Michael was born Sept. 16, 1952, in Ellensburg, Wash., and spent his childhood in the Pacific Northwest. He was active in high school sports including football, basketball, wrestling and baseball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, including service in South Korea. Michael was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a devoted Bulldog fan. He was also a talented photographer and poet. An exhibit of his photos was staged in 2006 at the Cultural Arts Center in Carrolton. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Robert of Dallas, Texas, and Stephen of Atlanta; daughters-in-law MaryAn and Erin; granddaughter Amelia; mother Ardis Shirk of Seattle, Wash.; sisters Teresa Hjelm of Vancouver, Wash., and Diane Hansen of Renton, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Allan Shirk and brother Dennis. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Johns Creek United Methodist Church, 11180 Medlock Bridge Road, Johns Creek, Ga.
