McARTHUR, Robert ROBERT SHEFFIELD McARTHUR "Bobby" Robert "Bobby" Sheffield McArthur 86 of Fayetteville, Georgia and former native of Atlanta died March 5, 2014 at his home in Fayetteville. Beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Bobby was born Jan. 18, 1928 to the late A.J. and Neil McArthur. He grew up in the Inman Park and Morningside areas of Atlanta where he attended Morningside Elementary, O'Keefe Jr. High and Boy's High School. He entered the University of Georgia School of Business Administration graduating with a BBA degree in marketing. While at UGA, Bobby achieved many honors, some of which are President of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Vice President of the Inter-Fraternity Council, President of the Gridiron Society and member of the Sphinx Club Honor Society, which is the oldest honorary society of UGA. He was also President and Co-founder of the UGA Bulldog Club. Bobby entered the U.S. Marine Corp in 1951 as a Second Lt. serving 2 years. He then entered the Marine Reserves, obtaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired in 1988 having served as Commanding Officer of his unit, winning "Best Unit" Award in the USA for 3 consecutive years. He entered the real estate business in 1954. He specialized in the leasing and selling of commercial properties having developed in excess of 3 million sq. feet of shopping center space. He was affiliated with Adams-Cates, Northside Realty, Draper-Owens Co., and John Hunsinger Co. In his later years he formed his own firm, McArthur & Co., with his son Sheffy McArthur. He won many honors in the real estate business, some of which are life time members of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors Million Dollar Club, and the prestigious Phoenix Award. He served as Chairman of the Commercial Million Dollar Club twice, and chaired almost every committee for the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors. Bobby was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church serving as an usher for over 40 years. Bobby loved the Lord, his family, his country, his friends, all animals, and life in general. He leaves his wife Nancy Martin Smith McArthur, three sons; Robert Sheffield "Sheffy" McArthur, Jr., John Mitchell McArthur, and Marshall D. McArthur, daughter-in-law Alesa McArthur and grandchildren Clark, Ashley, and Lyndsay. He is survived by one sister, Virginia McArthur Harris; and numerous & much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and millions of friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree St. N.E, Atlanta with Rev. Dan Matthews officiating. Imposition of the ashes will be in the St. Luke's Memorial Garden, with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, The Foundation Fellowship Fund of UGA, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
