Family-Placed Death Notice

SMITH, Robert Robert L. "Bob" Smith went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at age 92. He was born in Wrightsville, Georgia, son of Rev. and Mrs. A. F. Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Elizabeth; seven brothers and sisters, one being his twin brother; and his parents. Bob attended Mercer University and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He worked at Davison's Department Store, where he met his wife before being hired by Southeastern Pipeline Company as an electrical engineer. In 1961, his company merged with the now Colonial Pipeline Company, where he worked until his retirement as Chief Electrical Engineer. He was a member of the Georgia Engineering Society. He was also an active member of First United Methodist and the Maco Sunday School Class. Upon failing health, he and his wife moved their membership to Northside Park Baptist Church, where their daughter and son- in- law attended. He was very active in church music programs for many years. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Rebecca Smith, of Leesburg, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia S. "Pat" and John K. York Jr. of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Carole York Davis and her husband R. Dan Davis of Douglasville, Georgia, Bryan Lee Smith of Beloit, Wisconsin and Robert M. Smith of Marquette, Nebraska; sister, Kathleen S. Burch of Ellijay, Georgia; sister-in-law Jenny Smith of Fayetteville, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday August 30th at Northside Park Baptist Church with Dr. Vincent B. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Choral II 2636 Whiteleigh Ct. Atlanta, GA 30345. The family will receive friends this evening (Wednesday) from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory
