Family-Placed Death Notice

MURRAY, Roger ROGER EVERETT MURRAY Roger Everett Murray of Sandy Springs, GA died June 28, 2013, his 71st birthday. Roger was born in Toccoa, Georgia to the late Clyde E. Murray and Moselle Spearman Murray. He was a graduate of Toccoa High School and the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After college, he started his career with the Simmons Bedding Company, rising from a sales trainee to VP of National Accounts before his retirement in 2007. He was an outstanding team builder and a great motivator for everyone who worked for and with him. One of his legacies within the Simmons Company was the annual All-American top sales awards trip. His kindness and compassion lead him to participate on the boards of the Anti-Defamation League as well as President of the National Home Furnishings Industry Chapter for the City of Hope Foundation. As President, he lead successful fundraising activities that resulted in more than $8 Million in funds that would be used to advance treatment and cures for cancer and diabetes patients worldwide. Roger was an avid golfer and fisherman, enjoying the friendships along the way. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Sharon Murray. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia (Presh) Murray, brother Randy, sister Sally Lamperti, son Wilson Murray, son and daughter-in law Michael and Sloane Murray, grandchildren Lilly, Cameron, John Wilson, and Clayton. His presence will continue to be felt by the countless number of friendships he made throughout his life both personally and professionally. A memorial service will be held July 3, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at St Luke's Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, GA. Visitation will be held July 2, 2013 from 6PM- 8PM at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328, 404-851-9900. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Luke's Presbyterian Church or the City of Hope Cancer Center at www.cityofhope.org or sent to City of Hope, attn.
