MURPHEY, Shirley SHIRLEY M. MURPHEY On May 19, 2013, Shirley M. Murphey, 83, of Tucker, Georgia, died at Emory Hospital as the result of a major stroke. She was a breast cancer survivor. Shirley Mae Brackett was born March 23, 1930, to Percy and Cornelia (DeLaMatter) Brackett in Zion, Illinois, and was the youngest of three. She received her BA in journalism from Georgia State University and retired as an editor at Presbyterian (USA) Publishing House. On March 23, 1955, she married Cecil "Cec" Murphey. Their love and faith have deeply affected others. Together they had three children: Wandalyn Rosenberry (Randy), Cecile Rose Hege (Alan, deceased), and John Mark Murphey (Catherine). They have eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren (one on the way), and three great, great grandchildren. Shirley and Cec, with their children, did missionary service in Kenya, East Africa, for six years. Later, as Cec pastored three Presbyterian churches in the metropolitan Atlanta area, she faithfully ministered with him. As her husband transitioned to writing and became a professional author, she helped review and edit his work. She was Cec's rock, his supporter, encourager, lover, and biggest fan. She was an amazing, strong, methodically slow, beautiful, caring, giving person who will be greatly missed. An upbeat and joyful celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 4 p.m., at Clairmont Presbyterian Church, 1994 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Georgia. Memorials may be given to the .
