Family-Placed Death Notice

MERRITT, Jr., Thomas Robert February 9, 1929 - May 15, 2013 Bob Merritt, 84, of Atlanta, passed away at his home Wednesday morning. Mr. Merritt was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a Captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His career included managerial positions in major corporations and numerous achievement awards. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Virginia. His survivors include a son, Tom, and his wife, Penny, of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Karen, and her husband, Tim, of Madison, AL; three grandchildren, Matt, Courtney, and Cassie; five brothers and sisters; 10 brothers-and-sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 18, at the chapel at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment will follow the services at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday evening at A. S. Turner and Sons. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 Lavista Road, Decatur, GA 30033; Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502; Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319; or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. A. S.
